Sharon Denise Hishaw Gilkey was the second of six children and the oldest daughter of Mermon E. Hishaw Sr., and Bradys M. (Guy) Hishaw, born on May 6, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sharon received her formal education in the Kansas City Missouri School District and was a member of the Class of 1973, at Southeast High School. She later completed her General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

Sharon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of Memorial Baptist Church in south Kansas City, under Reverend T. B. Baker. She also held membership at Praise Chapel Christian Fellowship years prior to her faith conversion to Jehovah's Witness practices.

She worked throughout Kansas City serving in various capacities with recognizable companies such as Sears and Roebuck, Woodley's Janitorial and various retail and restaurant outlets, but she was most proud of her time with The Kansas City Star. She met her husband, Anderson Gilkey, while working at one of the part time jobs when he offered to assist in her work efforts.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with friends and family playing card games, board games, dominoes, doing word search and jigsaw puzzles, listening to music while singing off key, and two-step dancing. She would teach anyone to dance or play, although she made SURE she would win! She had a very robust laugh and most people joined in the laughter when she got started. In her quiet time, you could find her reading, watching games shows, the local news, or her favorite hobby, taking a nap.

She peacefully departed this life in the early morning hours of February 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Mermon "EJ" Hishaw, Jr. and Michael Hishaw and her grandson, Dorsey Gines.

She will forever be in the hearts and thoughts of her loved ones: Anderson Gilkey, KCMO three daughters, Shinita V. Hishaw, Fort Worth, TX, Stacy (Francis) Matimoju, KCMO, Shanae (Brandon) Moses, Bonner Springs, KS; son, Andre' Hishaw, KCMO; Seven grandchildren, Alexander Gines, Andre' Hishaw, Dereyan Hishaw, Siena Austin, Brooklynn Thrower, Aderyis Hishaw and Kacen Matimoju; two great-grandchildren, Kaisey Gines and Orion Gines; three biological sisters, Bradis Rene Hishaw, Grandview, MO, Chiquita (Freddy) Wilson, KCKS and Melanie L. Hishaw, St. Louis, MO; one love sister, Joan Finley, Raytown, MO, with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services for Mrs. Hishaw Gilkey will be held 5:00 P.M. Saturday, March 6, 2021, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until service time Saturday at the chapel.
