Sherry Ashcroft was born on September 3, 1953, to Lorne and Audra Oglesby, she grew up in Independence and was a lifelong resident in the Kansas City area, living in her Eastside Kansas City home for the last 40 years.  Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Lorne and Audra.

Sherry was a long-time neighborhood leader active in the Blue Valley and McCoy Park neighborhood.  She was never afraid to stand up for her neighbors and would fight to protect them. As one of the founding members of McCoy Park Neighbors. She led the effort to create a public park for the children in her neighborhood.  Her success in persuading the parks department to acquire and develop the lot where the former McCoy school had stood kept the asset for the neighborhood.   For 100 years it had been a school, as a park it would keep on serving the neighborhood into the future.

In her professional life she took her training as a graphic designer, first to the City of Kansas City, then a freelance designer, then to the marketing departments at a series of engineering companies.  Finally bringing her talents to HDR engineering.  There she worked for their Strategic Pursuits team, HDR's elite national marketing team.   As a child of the sixties Sherry always believed we should leave the world a better place than we saw it.  For her, working with HDR and engineering meant she got to work with a bunch of talented dedicated people who changed the world for the better every day.

Sherry departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2019.

She is survived by: her husband Dale Fugate; brother, Michael (his wife Rita and their children) and her many friends, co-workers, and the large extended family of sisters and cousins she acquired by marriage, all of whom love her dearly and miss her with heavy hearts.

Memorial services for Mrs. Ashcroft will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 26 2019, at the Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.
