Valerie Ann Slater-Kinermon, youngest daughter of William and Mildred Slater, was born on February 12, 1957 in Dermott, Arkansas. Proceeded in death by oldest sister, Wanda M. Slater, mother, Mildred Slater and father William Slater.  Her family and closest friends called her Ann.

Ann moved with her parents to Kansas City, Missouri in 1959. On April 17, 1966 under the pastorate of Rev. I.H . Henderson Jr., Ann was baptized, joining the Friendship Baptist Church. Ann was in the choir, Sunday School, BTU and the Young People's Auxiliary of the Mission.

Ann received her childhood education at Henry C Kumpf Elementary School, and graduated from Paseo High School, class of 1975. She also attended the University of Arkansas Monticello.

Ann loved being around babies and toddlers, doing different activities with them. Ann was in her element working at daycares and was a strong vocal advocate for little people and Senior Citizens. Many tears were shed seeing, hearing and reading about little people and Seniors being mistreated or going without their basic needs. She enjoyed being with her nieces and nephews, forming a bond with them. She insisted they call her Aunt Ann. Ann was finally blessed at age 36 with her own children, Brianna Chanille Hicks born May 11th, 1993 and Brionte' Chonuell Hicks, born April 18th, 1995. Ann was united in marriage on February 8th,1985 to Larry James Kinermon.

Ann's hobbies were cooking, reading, writing and drawing. She was our go to baking chef. Any cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, candy and breads you wanted, she was more than ready to make them. Each treat she baked came with an extra helping of love. Although plagued with a bad back, she would even clean chitterlings for us and even cook them without being asked to do so. That says a lot about who she was and she would invite people over to enjoy them with all the sides to go with them, sending everyone home stuffed. Ann enjoyed reading cookbooks, the Bible, religious material, self-help books and magazines with recipes and household tips. During her late teens and early twenties she wrote two children books even doing the illustrations. She enjoyed drawing pictures of babies who were always chunky with big smiles and unique names.

Ann suffered a massive heart attack and unfortunately too much damage was done and didn't survive it. Ann went to be with our Heavenly Father on September 2nd, 2022 surrounded by her family. She will be sorely missed and never ever forgotten. The last three, four months she spoke often about preparing to leave this earth, about her parents, sister, childhood friends who have gone home and two very special friends who had passed not long ago. Now she can walk around Heaven all day with the people she loved. We will see you on the other side.

Sharon Draper KCMO, Janet Fitzpatrick (Jon) Grandview MO, brother: Keith Slater (Linda), nephews: Jonta Kelsey(Monique) KCKS, Keith (Tre') Slater(Kelsea) Springfield MO, Jerime Maxwell Jr Grandview MO, Jaden McKinney Grandview MO, Jasir Kelsey KCKS, Jalen Kelsey KCKS, Isaiah Slater Overland Park KS, Elijah Slater Overland Park KS, Ishmael Johnson KCKS, Isreal Johnson KCKS, MeKari Powell Grandview Mo, nieces: Brandy Kelsey Grandview MO, Shawanda Draper KCMO, Shayla Johnson (Lauren) KCKS, Ciara Slater Overland Park, KS, Jazarae Kelsey, Naomi Kelsey NKC, Jada McKinney Grandview MO, J'Mya Kelsey Grandview MO, granddaughters: Autumn Chanille Hill, AuRiyah Aunesty Hill, Aubree Mykel D'Nyce Hill (affectionately called Seven by her grandmother) Independence MO.

God looked around His garden and found an empty space, He then looked down upon this  earth and saw your tired face, He put His arm around you and lifted you to rest, God's garden must be beautiful because He only takes the best.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kinermon will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at E.S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Private disposition.  Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the chapel.
