Venethia McClinton Wooten was born October 27, 1931, to the union of Arenda and Rev. Howard McClinton.  She and her five sisters all grew up in the Kansas City area and were known as the "V" sisters.  She met the love of her life, Walter Wooten in 1957, and they got married October 24, 1960.  From then on while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force, they lived in several countries i.e., Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan, Philippines, Germany and various US States.  While living abroad, not only did Venethia learn to speak in various languages (Japanese, Spanish, and Turkish) she also earned certificates for her ability to also write in those languages.  To their union their only son, Gregory Wooten was born in 1964.  She became a widow in 2009.

Both parents, two sisters, Vonsella Harvey and Venora Wilson and her husband, Walter Wooten preceded her in death.

She was a loving sister, aunt and most importantly a loving grandmother.  Not often could you go visit and not find at least two of grandkids there with her.

Venethia graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949.  She earned various degrees in Education, Social Studies, Science and Art.  From September 1981, to February 2012, she was employed with the Kansas City School District teaching mostly elementary 2 ^nd through 4 ^th graders.

Her hobbies included softball, judo, ceramics, pottery, ping pong, seamstress, league bowler and coaching youth bowlers.  Many of her pottery and ceramic creations were displayed in her home.  She traveled many years to numerous bowling tournaments until her health took a toll preventing her from participating in the sport she dearly loved.  In addition to bowling, Venethia was very much into her family and most importantly her grandchildren, as she often cared for and spoiled them…that's what grandmothers do…RIGHT!

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her only son, Gregory Kelvin Wooten; sisters, Vernell Scott, Verma McClain and Veloris Allen; grandchildren, Kelvin M. Wooten, J'Trene Barner, Lazerus K. Wooten, Va'Rick V. Wooten and Vontaye M.R. Wooten; several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and tons of friends.

Services for Mrs. Wooten will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 7, 2020, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the chapel.
