Verma McClinton McClain was born April 9, 1933, to the union of Arenda and Rev. Howard McClinton.

Verma and her five sisters all grew up in the Kansas City area and were known as the "V" sisters.  Both parents, three sisters, Vonsella Harvey, Venora Wilson, and Venethia Wooten; her husband, Fred McClain, Sr. and three children, Gilbert McClain, Fred McClain, Jr., and Cynthia Todd preceded her in death.

She Married Fred McClain. To this union, they shared seven children, four boys and three girls all born between 1949 and 1960.

Verma was a member of Love United Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. She demanded her grandchildren call her "grandmother", not granny, grandma or any other names.

Throughout her professional career, Verma worked in the medical field (supplies/records management) at General Hospital, Truman Medical Center and Swope Parkway Healthcare Center up until she went into her next life phase "retirement", which allowed her to devote more time to her family and the many travels she enjoyed with her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her children, Rodney McClain (Debbie), Glenda (Michael) Perry, Gaye Johnson and Howard McClain; sisters, Vernell Scott and Veloris Allen; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and tons of friends.

Graveside Services for Mrs. McClain will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 29, 2022, Forest Hill Cemetery.
