Vernon White Sr. was born on August 12, 1947, in Greenville, Mississippi to the union of Mr. Frank White Sr. and Daisie White. Vernon was the eldest of six children.  Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Roosevelt and Bertha Mitchell, maternal grandparents, William White, and Earner Myles White; seven aunts, Odessa Stevenson, Louella Bradley, Modine Kinney, Elizabeth Johnson, Annie Myles Rush, Eddie Myles Douglas, and Nina Bell Myles Eastland, seven uncles, James Mitchell, Otis Mitchell, Odell Mitchell, Sylvester Mitchell, Jack White, Tyree McBeth, Ulysses Hayward: one nephew Steven Frank White, one granddaughter Krealonna Marie Willis; one great grandson Preston Levi Thomas and several cousins.

Vernon received his early education in Greenville Mississippi. He along with his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1956 where he continued his education in the Kansas City Missouri public school system.  Graduating from Lincoln High School in 1967. He was The team manager of the football and basketball teams.

In 1967, Vernon married the "Love of his life" Rita Gordon.  Six children were born to this blessed union. He was affectionately known as Red. He was a warm and friendly person who loved and supported his family.

Vernon confessed Christ and joined the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Fate White Jr.

Vernon was employed by the Bendix Corporation and the Savoy Grill.  He retired from the Crown Center Hotel.

Vernon was caring and kind.  He contributed monthly to various charities, including ASPCA, St Jude, and Disabled Veterans to name a few. He made it his mission to stay in contact with friends and family by calling some daily, but calling EVERYONE on their birthdays and calling EVERYONE on every holiday. He never missed not one. Vernon was more than just a Father, Brother and uncle to his children, brother, nephews and nieces. He was a friend.  He kept the peace by making us all feel special!

Vernon had a melodious singing voice. He was not shy about sharing it, especially with his family and friends. Vernon was a member of a singing group The Novelles. The members of the group were Booker Goldsby, Ronald Sublet, James Butler, Norma Cheadle and of course Vernon.    This group was offered a deal from Decca Records, but due to obligations of one member of the group, they remained in Kansas City. Vernon played various instruments including the bongos, the tambourine, guitar, and the harmonica. He taught his children to sing and dance to an old juke box he owned along with his pool table. He had the youngest pool players(his children and nephews and nieces) and they knew all the pool tricks. He was an avid gardener and the chef of all chefs. He cooked for everyone. From playing cards, chess and darts he mastered everything he did. So being called Vernon "Little Man"White is a proof that Big things come in small packages. He was great!! He was a Faithful Fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.

Mr. Vernon White Sr. peacefully departed this life on January 23, 2022, at the home.

Vernon leaves to cherish his memory; one son, Vernon White, Jr., (Tonea).; five daughters, Tracy Swaby (Frank), Kay White all of KCMO,  Kam White of Lee's Summit, MO, Veronica Thomas (Phil), of Raymore, MO and Katina White of KCKS; brother, Frank White (Teresa) of Lee's Summit MO, four sisters; Mona Young of KCMO, Dianne White of Oakland, MS, Joyce White of West Memphis, AR and Erna Faye Boggess (Ronald) of KCKS; two aunts, Verla McDade of McAlester, OK and Billette Mitchell of KCMO; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren (one to be born in April) and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services for Mr. White will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 4, 2022, at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the church.
